The Elections
Election Day for Assocaborg, was as usual during the meeting day for the month of November. This year, it took place on Saturday, 28th November 2009. For the first time in the history of the Association, members were on time for an activity concerning them. In fact, by 4 p.m., there was already a quorum present for events to begin. We hope that this spirit can be carried onto other activities of our darling Association.
The first order of the day was to elect an audit committee that was to begin work with out-going executive so that they could present a qualitative audit report by the end of January 2009. The audit committee was made up of; Fortabi Mathias (Chairman), Theophilius Noboussy, and Tata Simon.
Then we received a talk from Vernesa Dzelic Talajic, from Studieförbudet Vuxenskolan, an organisation from which Assocaborg is receiving governmental support, and who also provided Election material to the Association. The talk was on the importance of democracy in an organisation, and also about the system of government found in Sweden, the monarch and parliamentary systems.
There were 3 candidates that were running unchallenged. So they were elected by popular vote. These candidates included; Gilbert Mbanwie for the post of Secretary General, Prisca Chinyere and Peter Ndanyeh for the post of Social Coordinators.
After that was time to carry out the Elections for the other positions. The executive positions included; President, Vice President and Public Relations Officer. Of the 36 Cameroonians eligible to vote, 35 were present, hence, the electorate.
The results were as follows:
President:
1. Elvis Tabot Ashu – 23 votes
2. Kingsley Ebong – 12 votes
Vice President:
1. Charles Ndanyeh – 16 votes
2. Denis Nchinda – 19 votes
Public Relations Officer:
1. Augustine Uzor – 18 votes
2. Raiffeison Ngoh – 17 votes
Counting of Votes
With the above results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, then went on to proclaim Elvis Tabot Ashu as President Elect, Denis Nchinda as Vice President Elect, and Augustine Uzor as Public Relations Officer Elect. As usual, the hand over ceremony was scheduled for the 1st January 2010.
After the elections, Charles Ndanyeh and Kingsley Ebong accepted defeat with very moving speeches and they were each gracious in defeat. We then had victory speeches from Denis Nchinda and Elvis Ashu who thanked their opponents and called for all to work together for the success of Assocaborg.
